This excellent video premiere is the title track and final release from from last year’s Adam Klein album, ‘Low Flyin’ Planes’. Klein’s gentle strum and clean, melodic vocals bring to mind classic folk singer-songwriters like Townes Van Zandt. Stuart Cole’s subtle upright bass adds texture and depth, while the violin by Parisa Sarfehjoo transports the listener away, just as the camera rises and pans over the wide-open landscape.
The rest of the songs on the album also feature outstanding musicians, including the likes of Matt Patton (Drive-By Truckers), guitarist Crash Cason (Wild Fires), Eric Carlton (Jimbo Mathus) on keys and Kell Kellum (Young Valley) on pedal steel and guitars.
Look out for a new three-song EP, ‘Little Tiger’, which Klein is due to release on 22nd January 2021. These songs will bring the ‘Low Flyin’ Planes’ cycle of songs and recordings to a close and will give fans something to enjoy while waiting for the next album. Klein explains where the songs and writing fit into the context of the world right now: “I worried momentarily that it’s somewhat tone deaf to release songs right now that make no reference to racial inequities, the increasing division in our country, the suffering amidst coronavirus, and the great reckoning of 2020. But people need music and art now. We all need something to move us, uplift us, and to commune with the ineffable power of music and song. I’ve written a lot since the killing of George Floyd and recorded an album this past summer grappling with this moment of American history, our past, and our inequities. The songs are in production as we speak, and will hopefully get out there as soon as possible.”
So, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2021 from Adam Klein. In the meantime, take in the video premiere of ‘Low Flyin’ Planes’. Excellent stuff.
