Video Premiere: Blind Fiction “No Reason”

Here is the excellent new single from talented Wisconsin band Blind Fiction.  ‘No Reason’ is  built upon rolling drums, warm bass and flowing keys, which provide a foundation for Tim Wright’s smooth vocal and soaring electric guitar.  The real highlights of ‘No Reason’ are a couple of genuinely fabulous guitar solos, during which Wright’s fingers journey all over the fretboard, finding notes that feel just right, emerging from the song’s captivating melody.  The song is taken from the band’s recently released third album ‘Oz’, the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Overlook’.  The new record was written while Wright was coming to terms with a depression diagnosis and while reading Stephen King’s ‘The Shining’.  Wright says: “I find a lot of lyrical inspiration in the fiction I read.  It feels safer and sometimes more honest to work through your traumas with the help of made-up characters.  Stephen King is one of my favorite authors – you will find a lot of references to his work in both this new record and ‘Overlook’.”

This reflects a conscious approach to songwriting – tackling real-life, personal issues through the use of fictional characters and situations.  Through clever writing, Wright makes the intimate universal and relatable.  He told AUK about how this works in the single: “With ‘No Reason’ I wanted to write a song about how hard you can work to show up for a friend or partner only to find that ultimately they cannot manage to meet you halfway.  I used references from Superman all the way to ‘The Time Machine’ by H.G. Wells to illustrate how far a character can go for love. The video was shot at the historic ‘Pabst’ Theatre in Milwaukee and made by Tony Lopez from ‘Films By Design’.”

Blind Fiction is a seriously talented quartet.  Singer and guitarist Wright first performed on the saxophone aged ten and has a degree in Jazz Studies.  Bass, keys and vocals are provided by Eric Madunic who has been nominated for and won WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Awards and toured extensively in various bands.   Joe Howard (keys, percussion) toured churches in the US, honing his keyboard and percussion skills.  Finally the foursome is rounded off by Nick Lang, who has a BFA in classical percussion and an MM in Jazz Studies.  These are musicians who exude quality and confidence.  Check it out for yourself – watch this performance of ‘No Reason’ and then absorb the excellent ‘Oz’.
