Here is the latest single from Nashville-based singer Caitlin Cannon. With beautifully-layered instrumentation, ‘The Alchemist’ is delivered with a rich, full sound and the result is timeless. In this live reincarnation of the song, we have electric guitar from Adam Meisterhans, which blends with Frank Rische’s acoustic and Jonathan Beam’s warm bass, driving a compelling melody and creating a foundation for Cannon’s smooth, tuneful voice, perfect for country. Further textures are provided by Taylor Floreth’s percussion, Ryan Keith on keys and Eddy Dunlap’s pedal steel, which is simply exquisite. The accompanying video was filmed by Misa Arriaga and Jace Kartye at Music City Studio B in Nashville; it’s a classy visual that showcases these fine musicians at work.
Cannon says of the recording: “I was late because someone rear ended me for a change. But I never have a bad day when I get to play with these guys. This was the first or second take (we only did it twice). We had Eddy Dunlap (pedal steel) Adam Meisterhans (electric guitar) Frank Rische (acoustic guitar) Ryan Keith (keys) Taylor Floreth (drums) and Jonathan Beam (bass) over at Music City Studio B. Misa Arriaga was behind the camera on this one with Jace Kartye.”
The single is taken from the upcoming 4-song EP ‘Beggar’, due out on 6th April 2024. The EP is a standalone pre-cursor to a full album release in the autumn. After a childhood in Alabama and time spent in New York as a young adult, Cannon is now based in Nashville and the influences of each location are evident in her lilting instrumentation and carefully-crafted songwriting. Cannon was a finalist in the American Songwriter Song competition and was also recognised at other recent competitions, including The Songwriter’s Serenade in Texas, and she achieved a third-place finish in the Telluride Troubadour Contest in Colorado. The new material builds on the well-received ‘The TrashCannon Album’ and her work as a duo with Alice Wallace as Side Pony. Look out for ‘Beggar’ soon – contemplative songs of self-reflection and self-reckoning.
Thank you so much for the wonderful words!
