Video Premiere: Dylan Perkons “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet”

Check out the new single from Vancouver-based Dylan Perkons.  “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet” is an introspective song about emotional conflict and the tension between self-doubt and hope.  Perkons captures these feelings well in his intimate lyrics and the understated verses that give way to brighter, soaring choruses.  The song grows steadily, with the addition of pedal steel, lush harmonies and compelling percussion.  By the end, the instrumentation – particularly the saxophone – lifts the song into melodic flight.

Perkons says of the “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet”: “‘We Don’t Know the Ending Yet’ is a bit more self-deprecating than I would usually write. I wanted the verses to really juxtapose the hopefulness of the chorus. I like songs that make you feel multiple things at the same time. I wrote this song about feeling like giving up but also about wanting to see what comes next. Hopefully that comes through in the music.”

The accompanying video, directed by Derek Janzen, captures simple everyday moments that we can all associate with.  Perkons notes: “We wanted to zoom in (literally and figuratively) and capture some beauty in the more mundane moments of life.”  It’s brilliantly shot and reinforces the intimacy of the song.

This single is the follow up to “Edge of the World”, which was released in March 2025.  Perkons is known for his work with Montreal-based orchestral-folk band  Mind That Bird and West Coast outfit Wired to the Sky.  However, when he entered the studio to record a new set of songs for Wired to the Sky, he sensed that the music was something new, different and fresh.  Deciding to release the songs under his own name, Perkons says: “The idea of playing under my own name hadn’t really crossed my mind before, but when it came time to name the new project, it just felt right. For the first time in my life, my music truly sounded like me.”  Beautifully-produced and at once both intimate and expansive, this is positive, hopeful music – be absorbed.
