Video Premiere: Lost Chimes “Something Different”

Here is the brand new single from songwriting duo Gemma and Nicky Kirk, who perform as Lost Chimes, featured recently on BBC 6 Music.  “Something Different” comes from the heart; with thoughtful lyricism, the duo capture the challenges and complexities of long-term commitment and ever-changing relationships that grow through struggle and love.  The single was recorded in London with renowned producer Gerry Diver, who has worked with the likes of Martyn Joseph, Bill Bragg, Van Morrison and Paul Heaton.  The gorgeous production and arrangement reflect the sophisticated songwriting and the result is music to get lost in.  There are wonderfully rhythmic and melodic textures, including intricate guitar-work and lush strings.  Over the layered instrumentation, Gemma’s tuneful voice is rich and immediately engaging.  As Gemma delivers her poetic words: “Way way out into space, // In the farthest reaches of our galaxy, A tiny piece of dust remembers where it came from, // Somewhere between you and me,” the song builds to a beautiful climax.

“Something Different” is the first of three singles to be released from Lost Chimes’ forthcoming album, “Now I Swim”, due to be released in mid-June 2025.  Their second album and vinyl release promises to be another reflective and carefully-crafted collection of heartfelt songs that cover the range of human emotions and explore trauma, healing and identity.  One to look forward to; in the meantime, absorb the excellent guitar-work and intimate lyrics of “Something Different”.
