Check out the new single from Seattle rock band Smoker Dad. ‘Part II’ is a surging burst of musical energy, dynamic and vibrant and full of life. With swirling electric guitar and a powerful beat, this is a driving, rhythmic track that’s sure to get you moving. There’s a lot of heart and humour in both the song itself and the accompanying video, in which the band members wake up, read the morning papers and make breakfast together using retro kitchenware. It’s filmed in a softly-focused retro style that feels like a grainy, old home video, adding to the charm.
Smoker Dad is a large band and all those instrumental layers lead to a full sound and exhilarating songs. Trevor Conway provides engaging vocals and guitar, joined by his brother Teagen Conway on lead guitar. Alongside the brothers, Chris King is on keys and vocals, Derek Luther delivers pulsing bass, Adam Knowles pounds those urgent drums, and Chris Costalupes is on pedal steel guitar.
‘Part II’ is taken from the brand new album ‘Hotdog Highway’, which is due for release on 24th October 2024. The band’s sophomore album promises to be a hugely enjoyable collection of rocking, rolling songs. Trevor says of the band’s music and inspiration: “Most of the songs are about love or struggling with sobriety but they all stem from touring. It’s lonely on the road and the mind runs. ‘Hotdog Highway’ is about trying to deal with that while still pulling through for the show every night. Smoker Dad is a big band and sometimes we’d be touring with 7 or 8 folks all in one van. We were so crammed in there, we would say, ‘like hotdogs down the highway’ and it just became this continuous joke.” The music reflects the excitement and challenges of life on the road, colourful music with plenty of good-humour. If you’d like the album in bubble-gum pink vinyl, then head here. Enjoy.
