Video Premiere: The Hello Darlins “Catch That Train”

We end the week with the foot-tapping, melodic ‘Catch That Train’, the new single from The Hello Darlins.  This is the second release from a the band, which was created when a group of Canada’s most respected session musicians decided to get creative together.  There was a huge response to the first single, ‘Still Waters’, and this promises to be equally successful.  This song is about embracing change and the excitement it brings, while also recognising what you have to leave behind.

Led by Mike Little, Murray Pulver, Candace Lacina and more, the collective explore and combine a range of roots styles and they are slowly revealing the tracks from the debut full-length album, ‘Go By Feel’, which will be released later this year.

The singer, Candace Lacina, explains her inspiration for the video: “I was fortunate to be raised in a family that valued creativity and celebrated music. My Grandfather was one of my greatest teachers and musical influences. His cultural roots stem from The Czech Kingdom, also known as The Kingdom of Bohemia (now Czechia). I was born in Canada but wanted to incorporate the spirit of Bohemian heritage into the video. ‘Bohemianism’, referring to an artistic, or ‘unconventional’ lifestyle is something that many people relate to – especially musicians and creators. This is not the technical definition of a Bohemian person, but to me the phrase reflects a sense of freedom… and its essence was embraced by western society after the Second World War. My grandfather spoke English, Czech and a Bohemian dialect of Romani that is now extinct. He was a very artistic, spiritual, carefree, loving and inclusive person.  To me, he was what the Bohemian soul still is.”

It’s great to see a band put together by the talented folks who would usually be ‘behind the scenes’, writing and recording for other artists.  Enjoy.
