Video: Seafoam Green “Maggie”

Seafoam Green have released a series of beautiful singles from their acclaimed new album, ‘Martin’s Garden’ and this dreamy song is, perhaps, the best yet.  ‘Maggie’ is slow, gentle ballad built around epic chords and shimmering electric guitar. Muireann McDermott Long delivers an impassioned vocal performance, full of sweeping, cinematic quality.  The listener is drawn in immediately, investing in the song right from her opening line: “What if your love is not enough?”  It’s an impressive mix of power and vulnerability.

The band say of the new single: “Maggie is based around the notion that just because someone loves you, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your own happiness to spare their heart. It’s a song about new horizons; taking control of your situation and not looking back.”

Over the course of the new album, the pair show a willingness to explore and embrace various roots styles.  What all the songs have in common, though, is that the duo craft excellent, atmospheric songs that provide a platform for Long’s tremendous voice.  Lovers of fine songwriting and and strong vocal melody should check this out.
