Video: Steve Hewitt “Cold World”

The latest single from British singer-songwriter Steve Hewitt is a brilliantly-crafted song that draws us into his message about conflict, social challenges and personal suffering.  He explores the darker side of human nature and the impact our behaviour has on others.  While this may sound bleak, Hewitt handles these big themes with sensitivity and, above all, with a compelling melody and emotional delivery that stirs the soul.  Hewitt sings: “I’ve seen peace in pieces // Lying on the floor // Love left knocking, waiting in the cold // Young hearts quickly turning into old before their time,” and his words are thought-provoking throughout.  By the end, he offers a plea to God for clarity as, “Another morning unfurls in this cold cold world.”

The tension and drama in the words is matched by the music, which grows gradually throughout ‘Cold World’.  Hewitt’s characterful voice rises and falls, following an immediately engaging, catchy melody.  Instrumental layers build up, creating a platform for the gorgeous tone of his guitar.  The footage in the video reinforces the subject-matter: protests, division and violence are artfully put together.

The single is taken from Hewitt’s sophomore album, for which he has reunited with Paul West Productions, the producer from his debut.  The new LP ‘Never Two Days The Same’ is out now.  check it out.
