Here’s the video for ‘Charlie Bird Parker’ from Danish band The Mukherjee Development. The band has a distinctive sound and they cite as influences the folk-pop of Sheryl Crow, indie songwriters such as Phoebe Bridgers and the varied guitar rock of artists like Neil Young and War on Drugs. ‘Charlie Bird Parker’, boosted by upbeat rhythms, features adventurous arrangements and instrumentation, over which Oscar Mukherjee’s vocal follows a playful melody.
The band takes its name from Danish/American/Indian frontman Oscar Mukherjee, who lived in California as a child before his family settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the band, Mukherjee is joined by Jakob Holm on guitar, Søren Bigum on guitar, pedal steel and keyboards, alongside a rhythm section comprised of bass from Henrik Poulsen and drums from Søren Poulsen. Together, these talented players combine to create an upbeat, quirky blend of sounds and styles. Mukherjee says of the band and their music: “Our main goal is to create and encourage a sense of community, fellowship and purpose with our audience. We need songs that bring us together, and in a small way, counteract the polarisation and demonization that sadly seems so prevalent in our current world.”
The single is taken from The Mukherjee Development’s brand new album, “Square Up On a Curve”, which was just released on 22nd August 2025. The baseball reference in the album’s title – managing to hit a curveball – is a metaphor for achieving success in the face of adversity. Previously, Mukherjee was responsible for all the songwriting, but on the new record, the whole band contributed to the writing, helping to deliver his messages of love, kindness and humanity in an uncertain and unforgiving world. Enjoy.
