The Welcome Addition “Now Forever” – a mournful tale of self-sabotage

Those of you familiar with us will know that we are a website based in the People’s Republic of Liverpool and so we’re always happy to feature music on our wavelength from around these parts – only last week we covered the terrific new album from Ian Prowse and today we’re pleased to share the new single from rising Liverpool quintet The Welcome Addition, the eclectically minded collective whose timeless ‘Northwest Coast’ indie-folk anthems have seen them become firm favourites in their hometown.

Their new EP Many Moons is an evocative selection of favourites from their live shows, showcasing a real knack for melody alongside the trademark ‘three Ws’ (warmth, wit and wisdom) that power their country-inflected sound. While a more fluid collective recorded The Welcome Addition’s 2022 debut LP Bom Dia Brothers & Sisters, this fresh batch of tunes finds the band with a settled line-up, and the songs fizz with a palpable sense of telepathic alchemy.

Lead track Now Forever was written by bassist Nik (who many many moons ago wrote for this website and is now 90% recovered from the experience), who says: “It’s a mournful tale of self-sabotage. An alt-country take on the classic Motown sound. Uplifting music and melodies juxtaposed with melancholic lyrics dripping with harmonies and stacked vocals. Like Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci covering The Flying Burrito Brothers but with a twist.” We are, of course, all over that.

You can catch more of the band’s music over on their Bandcamp page here.
