Video: Wes Chiller “Buffalo Highway”

Gently rhythmic and upbeat, ‘Buffalo Highway’ is an uplifting way to begin your day.  As well as an accomplished musician, Wes Chiller is a firefighter and his new EP, ‘Buffalo John & The Rainbow Crew’, was inspired by the experience of fighting wildfires in 2020.  Chiller explains: “The idea for this EP was to illuminate what kind of crazy stuff can happen out there on the road.  I bring a ukulele out with me, in case I’m struck by inspiration and can get a voice memo down to revisit when I get home.”

In the case of this song, it was the image of flames over water that stayed with Chiller and led to the creation of ‘Buffalo Highway’.   Slowly  building and adding layers, Chiller displays excellent songcraft and the freedom and joy in Ellie Delbridge’s dance performance is a delightfully captivating accompaniment to a thoroughly enjoyable song.  Chiller worked with producer Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids) to capture the authentic sound he needed.  Look out for the new EP from 5th February.

Wes Chiller has produced a short documentary to accompany the EP release, including footage of the wildfires and scenes from the studio. Check it out for an insight into his inspiration.
