Video: Rosanne Cash “She Remembers Everything” (Behind the Scenes)

The summer festival season is upon us and one of our favourites, Black Deer, takes place in Eridge Park this coming weekend. There’s much to look forward to with headline acts Sheryl Crow, Rufus Wainwright and Joe Bonamassa being joined by the likes of Bess Atwell, The Delines, Ferris & Sylvester and Michele Stodart.  If you haven’t yet got your tickets, ignore the weather forecasts and don’t delay – head over here.

An exciting addition to this year’s line-up is Rosanne Cash & John Leventhal, playing on Sunday 16th June.  Rosanne Cash is a hugely admired songwriter and performer, who has received multiple GRAMMY Awards and nominations over the course of her career.  Her most recent nomination was for the song ‘Crossing to Jerusalem’ at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards; it was one of many stunning songs from Cash’s most recent studio album ‘She Remembers Everything’, which was produced by the talented duo Tucker Martine and Cash’s husband John Leventhal. This collection of songs is personal, emotional and meaningful.  There’s a real sense of defiance and lyrical purpose that makes for a compelling listen.  Cash’s song-craft is, as always, incredibly assured.  At the heart of these songs is Cash’s beautifully melodic vocal, weary and full of feeling.

This video offers an insight into the album’s themes as Cash talks about her songs and inspiration between extracts from a number of tracks.  It’s always fascinating to hear an artist talk directly about their work and Cash is a thoughtful, sensitive songwriter.  Check it out.
