Springsteen’s assault on both purse strings and senses continues unabated as 40th anniversary boxset to be released

Sony Music will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s history-making “Born In The U.S.A.” on 14th June with a special-edition release featuring new coloured vinyl and expanded packaging. Available on translucent red vinyl, the anniversary edition will feature a gatefold sleeve and exclusive booklet with archival material from the era, new liner notes penned by Erik Flannigan and a four-colour lithograph. Released on 4th June 1984, the original “Born In The U.S.A.” had an unprecedented seven Top Ten singles and has sold over 20 million copies to date. It also seemed to capture a moment in the pop culture zeitgeist of the time. Springsteen and The E Street Band’s accompanying tour included 156 sold-out performances across the globe, while tracks like ‘Dancing In The Dark,’ ‘No Surrender’ and ‘Glory Days’ remain staples of their live show to this day.

Forty years after the Born In The U.S.A. tour kicked off in the summer of 1984, Springsteen and The E Street Band started the European leg of their 2024 run last weekend in Cardiff. The tour follows their all-encompassing run across the continent last year, which sold 1.6 million tickets in total. Talk about global domination! The 40th anniversary release for “Born In The U.S.A.” follows the career-spanning “Best Of Bruce Springsteen” collection, which came out last month which we said one or two kind things about when we reviewed it ourselves.  Copies of the 40th anniversary discs can be pre-ordered at https://brucespringsteen.lnk.to/BITUSA40

I don‘t understand this hype on vinyl. First I bought hunderts of Vinyl records. Then I had to chance to CDs. And now they won‘t me to buy vinyls again. This is just for idiots!!!‘

Couldn’t agree more, Stuartstorm. Crazy. Cd still the way to go, especially if you have a high-end system thro’ which to play them … as I do! (It also helps if you know of places to buy CD’s for £3 – £5).

But it’s red! Red vinyl! Here – take my money!

How I yearn for the days of arguing with assistants in record stores as to whether that warp / scratch / skip was pre or post it leaving the shop.

Now, if they’d re-release “The Promise” box set on CD for a reasonable price…

Assault on the purse strings! Nobody makes you buy it. It’s just a show-off feature to show your friends. I remember the old days when people spent a fortune on hi-fi equipment. It was all they talked about and yet they couldn’t recognise good music from bad.
