Here is the third single from Bristol-based duo Hannah Pawson and Gabriel Wynne, also-known-as Fritillaries. On this song, the pair are supported by superb collaborators who display excellent musicianship throughout. ‘Lost My Mind’ flows and swells on gentle melodic currents as Pawson, supported by Anna Colette, sings with a plaintive hopefulness about making a connection at a time of isolation. Written by Pawson and Wynne during the first lockdown, the song is truly emotive with a sense of yearning and loss. Particularly striking are Andy Hamill’s warm bass and Kit Massey’s atmospheric violin, over which the tremolo mandolin flutters brightly. For the final minute, the vocals fall away and all the focus is on the timeless playing, and we are delicately drawn towards the song’s conclusion. Simply put, it’s beautifully written and beautifully arranged.
Having performed music together since they were children, the duo are finally ready to release their debut album, which is due out on 15th July 2022. It’s the culmination of years of work, including extensive touring across the UK and Australia. Covering themes of people, places and things that have been lost, hidden and found, it’s very much an album that reflects the uncertain times we’ve been living in. The quality is consistently high and there has been support for their songs from BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music and Folk Radio UK.
