Video Premiere: Ellis J Barraclough “Patience”

Check out the remarkably accomplished debut single from teenage singer-songwriter Ellis J Barraclough.  “Patience” is a brilliantly crafted and arranged song, displaying impressive maturity in Barraclough’s writing.  Over a rhythmic acoustic strum, smooth notes of electric guitar and tinkling keys add layers and sonic depth.  Over these absorbing textures, Barraclough’s voice is warm and characterful, perfect for storytelling and drawing listeners into his words.  There’s a compelling freedom and confidence in his performance and in the melodic flow of his vocals.

Barraclough says of the song: “It’s about those moments where you get a little bit into your own head for whatever reason. You have to tell yourself, alright: calm down, be patient, and things will work out because at the end of the day, all of those thoughts are just paranoia. I think everyone has a bit of that anxiety at times.”  Indeed – it’s a theme we can all relate to and Barraclough captures these feelings with a great deal of sensitivity.

Barraclough is already earning recognition and airplay on the likes of BBC Introducing and BBC Radio London as well as touring with Simon Fowler and Oscar Harrison from Ocean Colour Scene.  Based in Hull, Barraclough has celebrated the musical legacy of his hometown with a series of covers on social media, performing songs from local musicians, including The Beautiful South and Calum Scott.  On 22nd May, Barraclough will be headlining Hull Social alongside his new five-piece live band, The Sunscreen.  This fine young writer and performer is definitely one to watch – enjoy this excellent song and then keep an eye out for more new material.  Enjoy.
