Jess Jocoy “Cul-De-Sac Kid” – Country enough for ya?

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jess Jocoy’s new album is out on the 25th of October, and this is its title song. It finds Jess Jocoy questioning her place in the modern Country scene – does she need to adopt a different accent? Are songs from a kid with a pretty average upbringing something that that scene is interested in at all? Is it, in short, worth the years of effort trying to forge a place in the music biz? After all, Jocoy moved to Nashville in 2014 to study songwriting at Belmont University, still carrying the grief of losing her father the year before. That weight entangled itself within her music, but “Cul-de-Sac Kid” offers her a moment to breathe, as she has said: “This album is about coming to terms with who you are, where you’re from, and the taking of longer roads,” she shares. “I’m finally making peace with not quite fitting in — and leaning into that.”

And if you’re thinking that Jess Jocoy sounds quite familiar, then it’s probably because she won The Twang Factor 2 here on Americana UK back in 2022.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
