On her latest single award-winning singer-songwriter Mia Kelly, from Gatineau, Quebec, takes a critical eye to the structures that shape our lives.  The rules and the regulations, the societal preferences and conventions, and finds that they may not describe a world run as a pure meritocracy.   It’s almost as if the rules have been created to ring-fence and protect the interests of a particular group – as Mia kelly sings: “lucky are the ones / For whom the shoe fits right / Lucky are the pretty / The wealthy and the white.

Sonically, Mia had a strong vision for ‘Blind Horse‘ : “I wanted it to be cool, a bit gritty, mysterious – and Connor [Seidel – the producer on the song] got it immediately.  His baritone guitar, Olivier Fairfield steadily chugging along on drums, and the layered guitars, percussion and harmonies all create a textured arrangement that still leaves space for the lyrics to be digested, which was my main focus.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
