Pearls is the latest single from the solo album Not Bad For New Jersey (arriving via his own Lesser Known Records at all DSPs and streaming services on Thursday, September 10th) by The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. It’s a wish you well, hope you get whatever you want, ‘cos you can get whatever you want, excepting Alice me song. Which is fine; although we do have to take a little umbrage at the first lines: “You know about every song / You know about all the bands before the blog does.” Ahem! I think you’ll find all the hep-cats find out about it right here at the centre of the hep-cat world. That aside, we like the song.
Pearls is not necessarily about a romantic situation; in fact, Brian Fallon is very clear that it is not saying of the song “I’ve never been one to resent anybody for having certain advantages in life, and I don’t think there’s anything inherently pure in having to struggle. But I do think there’s real value in overcoming the odds stacked against you, because getting to the point of feeling like you’re actually worth something is one of the toughest mountains to climb.”
