Eric Andersen “Stand Up And Resist” – what will you risk?

Tomorrow’s a special day in America, and today we have a song that’s all about the America that Eric Andersen loves. A land where healthcare might be recognised as a right, a land where Freedom is cherished, an America that belongs to all, one might say, “this land is your land“. He asks some hard questions: “When everything you know and love suddenly is gone / what would you do to make things right? / To fix a world gone wrong?

Eric Andersen certainly has history with this kind of song; he was protesting in Greenwich Village at the same time as Dylan, and now, in his eighties, he continues to record and occasionally play live. The grandson of a Norwegian immigrant, and himself an immigrant to the Netherlands, he’s a proud dual national.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
