Nathan Bell announces new album, UK dates

Tennessee big-hitter Nathan Bell has just completed his latest record after embarking on the project in California with Brian Brinkerhoff (Malcolm Holcombe, Guitar Shorty, etc) and Frank Swart (producer of the Pixies and bassist for Patty Griffin, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller) producing. Alvino Bennett (Bryan Ferry, Lindsey Buckingham, Slash, Dave Mason) has been called in to add drums and percussion.

The album, ‘The Red, White, and American Blues (it couldn’t happen here)’ is expected to get a late 2019/early 2020 release.

Bell, who emerged as Best Male Performer in AUK’s annual Readers’ Poll here at the end of 2017 and was runner-up in that same category at the end of last year, told Americana UK from his home in Signal Mountain: “The selection – all original songs is reflecting on almost fifty years of a dedication to American Roots music that started when I first picked up an acoustic guitar and began listening to acoustic blues and country. Although these songs are more blues-oriented than my previous collections, rest assured, they are still lyrical, relevant, Nathan Bell songs.”

Recording took place at Skunkworks Studio in Santa Cruz, last week. There will be a special, limited edition 2019 release to coincide with upcoming UK and European tour dates in October, an acoustic EP to be called ‘The Right Reverend Crow Plays New American Folk and Blues.’ Bell recorded a total of seven tracks with that in mind.

A vinyl single (2 songs), featuring the cover art of legendary Southern artist, Lamar Sorrento, is also scheduled for release later this year.

Bell added: “All of the songs are original. Some have been heard live, but American Gun, which gets a new full band treatment, is the only song that has been on any other of my CDs.”

The Lucky Man 2019 Tour kicks off at Kingsmead House in High Wycombe on October 9. Other dates (all with Canadian singer-songwriter David Leask supporting) are:

Fri 11: Cwtch Live Music Venue, Pembroke Dock
Sun 13: Harbour Arts Centre, Irvine
Mon 14: Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh
Tues 15: Performing Arts Centre, Kilbarchan
Wed 16: Blue Lamp, Aberdeen
Thurs 17: The Fallen Angels Club @ The Admiral, Glasgow
