Track Premiere: EG Vines “Love Is A Gift”

A lot of people get to this music that we loosely term Americana by less than direct paths, and EG Vines is one of those who started elsewhere.  Vines’ first bands were of the alt-rock variety whilst he was growing up in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  Then it was on to The Bandoliers and a stint on the blues and Southern rock scene  around Nashville.

EG Vines released a first solo EP in 2018, which was a change of direction towards a more roots-rocking Americana sound.  There’s now an LP due to be released called ‘Family Business‘ and today’s song ‘Love is a Gift‘ is taken from it.  The album has a whole looks at relationships – both within small confines and also taking in the greater Human Condition – and ‘Love is a Gift‘ expounds a  philosophy of openness and sharing whilst acknowledging a failure to always live up to these ideals.  Or a tendency to be human, if you prefer.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
