From the rolling hills of the Bluegrass and the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Kentucky duo The Local Honeys featuring Montana Hobbs on vocals, guitar and banjo, and Linda Jean Stokley on vocals, guitar and fiddle, have announced UK dates for January and February 2020, including two shows at the Celtic Connections festival.
The Local Honeys who just released a gospel album called ‘The Local Honeys Sing the Gospel’ which is described as “a spiritual and spirited concoction of history, folklore and tradition, tucked tightly into songs blanketing the southern Appalachians. The Honeys interpretation and collection of both sacred and secular songs from the American South are not an attempt to witness the glory of religion, nor are they an attempt to poke fun at organised religion or its followers.”
Having been the first women to graduate their state university’s degree programme in traditional ‘Hillbilly’ music, The Local Honeys have gone on to win numerous songwriting accolades, including the Chris Austin Songwriting Award at MerleFest, also awarded to Gillian Welch at the beginning of her career.
