Springsteen is first artist to have top 5 album over 6 decades in US

Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Letter to You’ hit the charts on both sides of the Atlantic last week, hitting indeed the number one spot here despite being nudged into the number two spot in the Billboard Top 200 in the US thanks to Luke Combs. But it’s enough to put him in the record books as the first artist to have a top 5 album on the Billboard 200 chart for six consecutive decades.

‘Letter to You’ sold 96,000 equivalent album units in the week ending October 29th according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, which made it Springsteen’s largest week of sales since the Billboard 200 began measuring in consumption units in December 2014.

We reviewed ‘Letter to You’ last week and said: “Stylistically it is the Springsteen of past glories, but also the perfect Springsteen album for now. On his twentieth studio album and having become a septuagenarian, the Boss has produced a very personal album celebrating the past and reflecting on loss and mortality, whilst at the same time still sounding like he’s having a ball.” You can read our whole review here.
