The second – and last for 2021 – single from Laura Quirke (of Lemoncello) and Joshua Burnside is a fragile semi-asleep reflection of a song. It takes, says Joshua Burnside, the viewpoint of a young Irish couple dreaming of a perfect life: “it charts the thought process of longing for a better life, something like the glamorous and sunnier Californian lifestyles they see on their TV, to realising that everywhere people are basically longing for the same thing – to fill some unfillable emptiness inherent in us all.”
Ironically, whilst they are dreaming of California others “come in their droves, distant cousins I suppose. To see our ancient things, magic stones that kind of thing. Trying to fill some emptiness, I guess….just like the rest of us.”
It’s a haunting song that’ll linger long in the memory.
