Video Premiere: Only Child “Everybody Comes from Something”

Here is the third single from Only Child’s upcoming new album ‘Straight Lines’, which is available to pre-order here.  The message is as beautiful as the musical execution.  With an engaging melody and Alan O’Hare’s characterful vocal, listeners will be drawn into this absorbing song and relatable sentiment: “I don’t come from nothing // Everybody comes from something.”  Beginning with a rhythmic strum, the song slowly builds into a sweeping foot-tapper, full of wonderfully evocative narrative lyrics from the immediately arresting opening line: “Billy is a drinker from Glasgow-way // Goes to work each morning and the pub everyday.”

Liverpool’s O’Hare is known for producing socially-conscious stories and this is no exception. He told us: “I was on a stag do in Glasgow. We walked into the first pub just after Noon on the Friday and I got gabbing with an auld fella’ at the bar. “Where’ve ye come from?”, he asked. Once I’d told him, he was off… and I’ve never recovered. Dignity has never been photographed, but I recognised I was in its presence that day.”  The song borrows musically from O’Hare’s Springsteen, Dusty Springfield and Dexys obsessions and stands on its own two feet thanks to a tale as old as time told freshly with trademark Only Child candour. “I was only with this fella’ for minutes, but he’s stayed with me ever since: ‘I dinae’ come from nothing, I come from something’ he said. And he’s right.”

‘Straight Lines’ will be the fourth full-length album from Only Child and promises a warm, full-band style thanks to excellent collaborators Jon Lawton and Amy Chalmers.  While you’re waiting for the album release, play this on repeat.  Enjoy.
