The video for ‘Above the Regular Crowd’ from She Brought Me Gasoline is an intriguing, atmospheric visual that reinforces the themes with which the Zagreb-based band are currently preoccupied: disenchantment with society and the dehumanising effects of social and political developments. Shot in a cottage at the edge of a forest in Croatia, the video conveys a sense of loss and abandonment and is full of effective symbols and images, such as the removal of an old photograph and the re-positioning of the crucifix.
Musically, ‘Above the Regular Crowd’ features a real foot-tapping groove, fuzzy guitar and gritty vocals. The overall effect is an engaging, bluesy song, possessing a memorable sense of purpose. The single is the first from the band’s second album, a blend of blues, Americana and country, which is due out early in 2022. The new record will be a follow-up to 2020’s well-received ‘On Values and Trash’, themed around how to save things. Through the new record. the band will explore contemporary culture, a forgotten Bosnian town, familial relationships and more. Well-worth checking out on release and, in the meantime, enjoy the rootsy ‘Above the Regular Crowd’.
