A Sunny Day In Beachwood

Well, here’s a fine thing – yet another garden party that you weren’t invited to, but at least there’s some footage of it so you can see what you missed.  As Great Willow told us, by way of telling us about something else which we’ll doubtless get to later, “On May 22, 2021, we threw a Secret Bowl Music Series party at our friend Staci’s house in Beachwood Canyon and invited some of our friends and favourite fellow Los Angeles Americana artists to perform with us (I See Hawks In L.A., Ted Russell Kamp, Old Californio, Petty Chavez.) After the ravages of Covid-19, it was the first time any of us had seen each other in person or heard live music in over fourteen months. James captured a lot of that day with his iPhone – cinema verité-style, as they say – you can feel the joy of a community sharing great music again after a long and painful absence. This golden afternoon in the California sunshine was the moment we got it back.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
