The new double-sided single from Amanda Fields and Megan McCormick has been released on Are and Be Recordings and features a pairing of reflective and slightly melancholic songs: ‘Redbird‘ and ‘I’ve Just Seen the Rock of Ages.‘ Both songs see the duo working with a fiddle player to add that certain something to the song – on ‘Redbird‘, it is Tatiana Hargreaves.
Amanda Fields explained why ‘Redbird‘ was a song she particularly wanted to record: “It’s been over a year since Meg [Megan McCormick] and I released some music together, so I’m very grateful to see these songs make their way. Both songs are special to me, ‘Redbird’, because Meg and I wrote this one together about a cultural tradition of seeing cardinals as a connection to loved ones who’ve passed on. ‘Redbird’ felt like a good companion song to ‘I’ve Just Seen the Rock of Ages,’ which lyrically and, in its essence, captures some of the felt sense of my experiences with death and dying, or transitioning.”
Megan McCormick elaborated on how the recording came together, saying, “This double-sided single release is all about shining a light a little deeper into the canyon of our community. We tracked the songs with our dearest collaborators, Annie Petrik and Brandon Bell (core group for the duo project [Megan McCormick and Amanda Fields]), and then from there, the songs called for an invitation of presence from one of my oldest friends and collaborators, Odessa Jorgensen, and the musical treasure that is Tatiana Hargreaves, whom I crossed paths with in 2024 while teaching at Casey Dreissen’s Blueridge Fiddle Camp.”
