Ashley Shadow and Bonnie Prince Billy “Don’t Slow Me Down” – Sadness, I know thee

There’s the tentative feel of something slipping away – an opportunity lost, or the wrong path taken – on Ashley Shadow’s ‘Don’t Slow Me Down’ which simply drips with pedal steel set to weeping.  A sad song, made just that slightly achingly, yearningly sadder by the contribution of additional vocals by Bonnie Prince Billy.  Just the thing to whip that spring in your step away from you this Thursday morning, and gently push you back down into a chair to silently contemplate the mistakes of your life.  Hey, don’t say we never give you nothin’.

Don’t Slow Me Down‘ is taken from Shadow’s second solo album – which the Vancouver artist will be releasing on September 24th.  It’s called ‘Only the End‘, and there’ll be a vinyl release on October 29th.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
