BEATrio is a new band with at least one well known name in it. Béla Fleck has joined forces with harpist Edmar Castañeda and drummer Antonio Sánchez. It’s a lively combo which reminds Fleck of earlier parts of his career as he says: “This project kind of reminds me of the early days of the Flecktones, when audiences would go, ‘How is this supposed to work?”
Béla Fleck naturally needs no introduction, harpist Edmar Castañeda hails from Bogotá, Colombia, and has led his own bands in addition to sharing projects with such masters as Hiromi, Paquito D’Rivera and Grégoire Maret. And Antonio Sánchez is a five-time Grammy winner who grew up in Mexico City and has built a reputation as one of the great jazz drummers through his work with guitarist Pat Metheny.
The trio will be touring across the world starting…hey, today in Minneapolis. There will be two dates in London at Cadogan Hall on July 9th and 10th. Tickets, as they say, are selling fast. And they are.
