Check out the latest single from Scottish singer-songwriter Alex McEwan. Warm guitar and fluid keys are the foundation for a catchy melody in “Bee In a Honeypot”, a well-crafted song that showcases McEwan’s smooth, rich voice. McEwan is supported by some fine musicians on the song, including Chris Maas on drums (Mumford and Sons, Sting, Phoebe Bridgers) and Austin Moorhead on guitar (Carly Pierce). Written and produced alongside Graham Noon, the song also benefits from being remixed by Soren Andersen (Amy MacDonald, The Cranberries). The outcome is another piece of timeless song-writing and a confident performance from the Glaswegian singer.
McEwan says of “Bee In a Honeypot”: “It’s a song about time and how limited our time on earth is. About feeling free, and about the person you love. And given what we’ve all been through in the last few years, it speaks to a desire to feel free again, like we were as kids. But it’s also a love song to my wife.”
The single is from McEwan’s upcoming third album, “In A World We Don’t Know”. It’s a collection that celebrates the joy of second chances and overcoming life’s obstacles. After a first go at songwriting and recording in Nashville some years ago, McEwan was inspired to return by a well-received open-mic performance on a cruise ship. Lockdown nights writing new material has led to “In A World We Don’t Know”, an entirely self-financed work and the result of McEwan’s dedication. Enjoy.
