‘Lady Red‘ is something of an autobiographical song for Bessie Deakin, which deals with her ambitions, and a somewhat secretive nature. Deakin has elaborated that: “I hid my desire to sing for a long time. I took singing lessons without anyone knowing and fed my obsession with songwriting by practicing, reading and learning about the craft of it all. I remember feeling faint during singing lessons and quite literally couldn’t make it through a song without sitting down.”
