Blitzen Trapper going wild and reckless in UK this week

As part of a lengthy European tour covering Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, Blitzen Trapper hit our shores for 3 brief dates this week.  It’s hard to credit that it’s been 10 years since the Portland, Oregon-based folk rock act’s breakthrough album, ‘Furr.’ Recent release, ‘Wild and Reckless’ has been described by frontman Eric Earley as  “something like a cross-eyed stepchild to Furr.”

The ‘Wild and Reckless’ album had its origins in a stage production the band spent the better part of a year producing. Half musical, half rock-opera, the 12-track set includes 7 songs from the musical and 5 new numbers, with themes touching on heroin abuse, desperation, true love and western power structures.

Speaking to AUK late last year, Eric Earley said of the record: “I wanted to tell stories in the vein of Townes Van Zant or Springsteen but with underlying psychedelia like you’d find on Dark Side Of The Moon or OK Computer. I think it finds its balance somewhere in my early obsessions with Syd Barrett and of course Dylan.”

Catch Blitzen Trapper at the following shows:

April 10 Glasgow, King Tuts
April 11 Leeds, The Brudenell Social Club
April 12 London, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen
