Bruce Springsteen “Blind Spot” – what I choose not to see

And here we are at the start of a run of Tracks that we considered sweeping up into a track feature called “Bag of Big Hitters.”  It’s that time of year – the big names are on the move both literally with touring and figuratively with album releases.  And Bruce Springsteen is perhaps topping them all with his seven previously unreleased albums.

And here’s the lyric video for ‘Blind Spot‘ taken from the ‘Streets of Philadelphia Sessions‘ which found Springsteen exploring an interest in the rhythms of mid-1990s contemporary music, and particularly West Coast hip-hop.  Fully completed, mixed and slated for a spring 1995 release, ‘Streets of Philadelphia Sessions’ was ultimately put aside, as Springsteen decided to reunite with The E Street Band for the first time in seven years.  He explains that: “I said, ‘Well, maybe it’s time to just do something with the band, or remind the fans of the band or that part of my work life,’” he remembers. “So that’s where we went. But I always really liked ‘Streets of Philadelphia Sessions’…during the Broadway show, I thought of putting it out [as a standalone release]. I always put them away, but I don’t throw them away.

And the touring?  Yeah, Bruce will be heading our way with dates in Liverpool on 4th and 7th June, whilst in May he’ll be playing at the Co-Op in Manchester on 14th, 17th and 20th.  We’re presuming they’ll clear some space in the bread aisle for him and the band.  As Bruce always says “no venue too big, no venue too small,” so we’re hoping for an impromptu house gig at Americana UK Towers whilst he’s in Liverpool.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?

If what we have heard so far is anything to go by, these seven albums wil lbe the musical equivalent of the Lost City of Atlantis.
