Carla Olson and Tall Poppy Syndrome “Is It True” – straight up, dude

Why are we featuring Carla Olson again?  Because we really like Carla Olson – and this song finds her working with Tall Poppy Syndrome, a supergroup consisting of  Vince Melouney, Australian guitar legend and member of the (psych-era) Bee Gees; Clem Burke, the renowned drummer of Rock And Roll Hall-Of-Famers Blondie; guitarist Jonathan Lea of the critically-acclaimed Art Pop group The Jigsaw Seen and singer Paul Kopf and bassist Alec Palao of Strangers In A Strange Land.

Carla Olson and Tall Poppy Syndrome were going to cut ‘Let It Ride’ (written by Barry Gibb and Vince Melouney) together but then after recording the backing track, Tall Poppy Syndrome decided to complete it themselves and look for another song.  And they found the Jimmy Page backed version of ‘Is It True‘ recorded by Brenda Lee.  And thus this track.

We have – by the way – featured Tall Poppy Syndrome before as well, as part of Jingle Bells Friday.  Which reminds us, it’s only 113 days to Christmas so it’s probably time to sit down and write that new Americana christmas classic.  Still waiting for a really good folky version of ‘Merry Xmas Everybody‘….or a jingle-jangle jingle bells…

…and it’s only 51 days to Halloween…and we’re still waiting for…

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
