Ok - let's have some fun. This thread will be about the mighty heroes of music who everyone thinks is a genius except you. You just don't get.*
I'll start. There has been discussion elsewhere in these forums about the great Bruce Springsteen and his new biopic. Clearly the man has lots of fans, some of them fanatics, both in our community and in the world at large. And I don't know why. I listen to Springsteen and I just hear pomposity, grandiosity and verbiage. Clearly he has some talent and is a particularly hard working musician. His 'social' views are to be commended as well. But I just find the music, the tunes dull as ditch water. Obviously this is my problem and I wouldn't dream of criticising anyone's taste (at least not out side of a pub environment) but I can't see the attraction. Maybe I just wasn't born to run.
That said this is a corking version of one of his tunes (made better by the fact that he's not on it):
*Don't bother saying The Beatles. That would be tiresome and unimaginative, right?
Have to say Paul I agree about Springsteen, he's way too bombastic and overwrought for my taste and also the sax ruins rock music for me (but not jazz oddly enough)
the sax ruins rock music for me
Seriously? For me if it doesn't have a horn section then...
How do you feel about the flute?
@markamericana No sax, please. We’re British

Springsteen? I'm kind of in the middle, I'm not a massive fan but I've listened to plenty (maybe all?) of his albums and some I quite liked, some not so much. I guess I don't have strong feelings either way...
For me it's the Stones, to me they are the most overrated band of the 60's.. They aren't close to The Beatles in terms of songwriting and talent, nowhere near as interesting as The Who, not as cool as the Small Faces.. and honestly I think The Hollies catalogue is wider in scope and more interesting.
I do like a lot of Rolling Stones music, and I like a lot of the bands/music they've clearly influenced, but they also made a lot of records that I don't really like at all. They were a really good band but the pedestal they've been put on in crazy to me... maybe you had to be there?
@simon-g I reckon the Stones had a great run from 1968 until 1973, equal to the bands you mention but after that it was a series of diminishing returns with only the odd nugget worth listening to. Had they broke up, like The Beatles, they would be enshrined.

Agreed, I've never understood the adulation given to "The Boss."
@paul-kerr Springsteen is very good live, better than on record.
Weren't you at his first live gig in Scotland in Glasgow on 31 March 1993 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, plus his underreported slot supporting Oasis on 31 May 1993 at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut at which you told Mr McGee to sign the Gallagher brothers?!
I don't get Radiohead, on paper I should like them, but I remember leaving their "classic" headlining performance at Glastonbury in 1997 to go and see Billy Bragg in the acoustic tent.

Much bigger fan of the flute, I think I prefer Jethro Tull to Springsteen (is this sacrilege?)
I don't like the Stones, but agree with Paul K's assertion that they had a good run in that period, like most acts do. however, I'd posit the idea that The Doors are the most overrated band of all time and, unlike the Stones and the Boss, there are no redeeming features about them at all.

@charlie_arglist I really like the Doors, I listed to 'Strange Days' about 5 times though on repeat just the other day. 🤣
Ray Manzarek is absolutely amazing on keys, there's your 'redeeming feature' regardless of what you think about Morrison. 😉

@charlie_arglist Fair enough mate, I not doing to claim they are the greatest band ever or anything. But I think they are cool and sound interesting to my old lugholes. 😊
Jason Isbell, there, I said it. Partly because not much of what I've heard has caught my attention I'm not too aware of his full catalogue but I fail really to get what all the fuss is about.
