Dunlap & Mabe “Stumblin’ Out Of The Gate” – quite a quick stumble

There is a lot of stumblin’ going on in the world, you dear reader can surely think of some examples of your own from recent days.  But today’s stumblin’ is a rapid and surprisingly unchaotic example of the phenomenon.  Dunlap & Mabe provide us with a joyfully uplifting  Bluegrass instrumental that trills along at a break-neck pace, a perfect tune for the Americana UK take it easy and dig the banjo Instrumental Interlude.

Dunlap & Mabe started out as a solo project for Jack Dunlap exploring his bluegrass roots during the Covid lockdowns.  But as things started to loosen up a little it expanded as Jack pulled in his old touring buddy Robert Mabe to play banjo.  And things just spiralled from there, with Alex Kimble adding bass and Mason Wright on fiddle.  Dunlap & Mabe released their debut album on September 23rd, and this is the title track.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
