Eilen Jewell “Lethal Love” – you or nobody

Eilen Jewell could be forgiven for reflecting that life can throw you a curve ball or two, and she does say that “They say things have to get worse before they can get better and for a while there, everything got worse.”  In a matter of months Jewell had experienced  both her marriage and her band fall apart.  It was a shaking series of events which made her feel as if her entire career was going to go out in a series of spectacular, heartbreaking implosions. But the dust did, as it is wont to do, settle leaving Eilen Jewell grieving and shocked, living in a remote cabin in the mountains and unsure if she’d ever get to make music again.

Well, clearly she did – since her ninth album ‘Get Behind The Wheel‘ is out on May 5th via Signature Sounds and this song of obsessive love is taken from it.  There’s plenty of the rootsy country feel we’ve come to expect from Eilen Jewell on it, mixed in with a smoky sultriness as she sings “I want your love or no love at all.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
