‘Scotty’s Tyres‘ is the new single from up-and-coming British-American singer-songwriter Ella Spencer, co-produced by Jerry Joseph and Steve Drizos at The Panther studio in Portland, Oregon and released on Right Track Records. It’s a co-write with Canadian Poesy, and originated with just a melody line as Ella Spencer describes: “The title ‘Scotty’s Tyres’ originated from a voice memo I took of the melody of the first line, which my phone automatically named as I walked past my local tyre shop. I kept it as a place-holder, and as the song developed I ended up writing the line about slashing tyres so I decided to keep it – and use the tyre shop as the location to shoot the cover.”
Born in London and raised by British-American parents in the Suffolk countryside, Ella grew up surrounded by musicians after her father started the UK’s first Americana festival. She spent her school years studying classical piano and viola, but her early twenties saw her move to London and gravitate towards the music she was raised on. Hanging around the festival from an early age she sat in with the likes of Terra Lightfoot, Andrew Duhon and, more recently, Jerry Joseph (who adds resonator guitar on this song), she then began to develop her own style and venture out on her own.
