Trailblazing singer and songwriter Nanci Griffith, whose life was suddenly cut short in 2021, was a pivotal figure in the development of what is now known as Americana music. She left behind an extraordinary and keenly influential body of work that will likely inspire future generations of songwriters for years to come. On September 22nd as we’ve already reported, Griffith’s artistic legacy will be memorialised through the all-star tribute, ‘More Than a Whisper: Celebrating the Music of Nanci Griffith’ which features contributions from Brandy Clark, Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle, Iris DeMent, Todd Snider, and Aaron Lee Tasjan with Patty Griffin among others, but to kick things off Griffith’s longtime friend Emmylou Harris has released a joyful and buoyant rendition of ‘Love Wore a Halo (Back Before the War).”’ Enjoy.
