Ethan Sherman “Cup & Porch” – modern bluegrass stylings

We can’t repeat often enough that Wednesday afternoon is a good time for a stress-busting instrumental, oh the relief of no lyrics for five minutes….and as we also often repeat too darn few good instrumentals come our way.  So, make of that what you will – but today we do have a truly fine folk/bluegrass instrumental from Ethan Sherman.  ‘Cup & Porch‘ is taken from Sherman’s upcoming album ‘Indoor Vistas‘ which will be released on March 4th.

Indoor Vistas‘ has recognisable music for bluegrass band and also features guitar-orchestra fantasias that transport the listener to imaginary places. The album is both a celebration of community collaboration and a “pandemic record” sculpted from scratch in a quiet room for months on end. It was produced by Ethan at home in Los Angeles, and features contributions from musicians like Avery Merritt (Sierra Hull), Thomas Cassell (Circus No. 9), Matt Davis (Steve Martin Banjo Prize winner no less), Drew Taubenfeld (Dwight Yoakam) and more.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
