Exclusive AUK Mini-Gig: Shannon LaBrie

Great musicians performing mini-gigs is a way to connect music lovers during these strange times.  It gives you the chance, dear reader, to see and hear live shows from artists who, just like you, are isolating themselves at home.  Today’s show is from Shannon LaBrie, who recorded her song, ‘Raining Hallelujah’, outside in the snowy Nebraskan spring.  Blue skies and snow.  It’s lovely to see another part of the world when you can’t travel anywhere!

LaBrie’s 2016 album, ‘War & Peace’, was a critical success, earning acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, who said: “Her songs unfold with style and subtlety, coasting over the album’s lush arrangements via LaBrie’s gorgeous voice. It’s as if Jeff Buckley and Norah Jones started a band that went a tiny bit country.”  That success is set to continue with the release of her new single, ‘Firewalker’, which came out on 1st May.  The next full length album is coming soon.  In the meantime, enjoy this performance in the ‘raining snow’ and, as LaBrie says: “I hope you’re staying safe, inside and healthy.”

Here are the lyrics if you’d like to sing along:

‘Raining Hallelujah’
By Shannon LaBrie & Tia Sillers

Regret is a howling wolf
Crying fool
You’re not worth saving
Sadness is the weight of stones
Pulling me down
Deep waters calling
Grief is a candle blown
Nothing to see
Once twilights faded

Above every storm
A cloudless sky
Waiting for me and you
It’s raining hallelujah
It’s raining hallelujah

Joy is a crashing wave
A laughing child
A gospel choir
Love is a lighting strike
Straight to the heart
A death defier
Hope takes the feather high
It spreads the wing
Makes us a flyer
Higher and higher

Above every storm
A cloudless sky
Waiting for me and you
It’s raining hallelujah
It’s raining hallelujah

(Bridge)
We’re all waiting for the fog to lift
Believing that the sun still shines
We wanna taste the sweetness on our lips
Breath in a brave blue high

Above every storm
A cloudless sky
Waiting for me and you
It’s raining hallelujah
It’s raining hallelujah
