Ferris & Sylvester “Jealous” – go green, my hulk

What’s this then, Issy Ferris is pining to inspire jealousy? That does seem to be the main thrust of the latest single from the latest album, It’s A Joy To Be Alive, set to be released on August 14th via their own Archtop Records label. Can this really be the same loved-up couple who met in a London blues bar, married and are proud parents of two children?  They’ve also put together their own studio/label hub in the West Country.  So what’s going on here?

Archie Sylvester explains that Jealous is not a recent song, saying “In its original form, Jealous was conjured up by Issy when she was 17, about the cool kids at school. Over ten years later, we realised it still had deep meaning in our lives as adults. We had to work on it. It’s exciting to face the ‘uglier’ parts of ourselves in our writing. So much strength can come from it. This is for the kids, teens, adults, elderly folk, any human being who has felt inadequate standing next to someone else. It’s time we embraced it.”

Well, that’s ok then. Phew!

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
