Jethro Tull “Beltane” – Happy New Year!

Yesit is true, Jethro Tull are not such regular visitors to the realm of Americana UK, this however is one of their more folk-rockish songs and since it is Beltane (or was at the weekend anyway!), and the choice of songs for the festival are somewhat limited (and do we really want to evoke the Wickerman stereotypes of ‘Summer is a Cummin in‘ ?) then they get their seasonal pass.  We like to be inclusive.  We  huddled around the cathode ray tube watching the ‘Wickerman’ on the day itself, of course.  The original, not the remake.  Sorry Nic’ Cage, we’re not that inclusive.

And so, Americana artists, unless you want this to be featured every year here’s your challenge – more Beltane songs.  You can do it, we know you can.  If we get enough we’ll start up “Jingle Beltane Bells Friday.”  But we’re not holding our Beltane Breath.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
