Mama’s Broke “How It Ends” – should have seen this coming

Eight years of touring and playing have brought Canadian duo Mama’s Broke to their second album, ‘Narrow Line‘, which will be released on May 13th.  An auspicious day.  It’s an album that features little stunners like today’s song ‘How It Ends‘ where banjo and sawing fiddle coupled with harmony vocals tell a story as old as time.  It could just as easily have been called “well, knowing you, this is really no surprise at all.”  It turns out that true love is a cheat and all those promises were naught but the fluttering of hot air.

Mama’s Broke – Lisa Maria and Amy Lou Keeler – met on the road. As Lisa recalls “Amy was driving her old Mercedes from Montreal to Nova Scotia and I was looking for a ride. We spent the 17 hours in the car talking almost exclusively about music. By the time we reached Halifax we started playing together, and within a week or two became a band.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
