Midlake & John Grant “You Don’t Get To” – no quitters

So, we were mentioning that John Grant and Midlake had a new double A side single, and doubtless you were wondering, dear reader, what the other A Side was like?  Well, it is quite simply John Grant at his sarcastic best, and let’s be honest it also sort of sounds like a self-analysis when he sings “you don’t get to quit just because nobody gets you” which might well have been what Midlake told him when they backed him on ‘Queen of Denmark‘.

John Grant has said of the new release “Very happy that these songs I did with Midlake are finally seeing the light of day. Eric Pulido asked me a couple of years ago to come to Denton and do a couple of songs for their BNQT project and of course I said yes, because working with Midlake on my first solo album ‘Queen of Denmark’ was one of the greatest times in my life. We became like brothers during that time. I don’t get to see them often enough. I don’t think I want to live in Texas at this point in my life, but I often think about that time in Denton and the incredible people I know now because of it, and sometimes I am very tempted to go back there just so I can be around them. I had a blast doing these songs with them as I knew I would and I hope we get to do more in the future.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
