Nadia Reid “Oh Canada” – Listen

New Zealand’s Nadia Reid has a new album called ‘Out Of My Province‘, which emerged on Spacebomb Records last Friday.  It features musings on travel and, on  ‘Oh Canada‘ also embraces Reid’s love of Canadian artists such as Joni and the younger Wainwrights – there are even some Joni-isms in the song which conveys a dual desire – for a person and to actually go to Canada – one place Nadia Reid has yet to visit.

Reid has expanded on the song’s duality being “also about big love and new love and navigating being an artist in love with an artist. I was on tour a lot and I was getting more and more attention. There was friction and resentment.  So ‘Oh Canada’ is about that relationship breaking down essentially. It was me working out what I was waiting for and what I wanted from life at that point in time. I finished the song in Portugal.

Nadia is playing a number of dates in Europe this April which you can peruse below the track.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
