Our Atlantic Roots “Under The Sun” – no time for regrets

Under the Sun‘ is taken from the new EP ‘Hold Every Moment‘ by wife and husband duo Mac and Laura Johnston who are Our Atlantic Roots.  They are based in Cornwall and have played regularly around the South West and beyond – 2021 saw them at Cornwall Folk Festival, Creation Fest and Between the Trees Festival in Wales.  Their folk-Americana blend owes more than a little to Mac being originally from the USA – the couple met in Asheboro, North Carolina in August 2012 and within a few weeks had discovered a mutual love of music and songwriting; they sat down to write their first song together and wouldn’t you know it two years later they were married and also relocated to the UK.

Keeping up that international theme – the four songs on the new EP were produced by Norwegian Stian VedØy of Bristol-based ‘mountain-pop’ duo Firewood Island, and were mastered in New York City by Dan Millice of Engine Room Audio.  And keeping the theme from yesterday – who knows if we’ll manage it all week – Our Atlantic Roots are down to play Americanafest in Hackney next January.  It’s going to be great.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
