Phil Cook “Appalachia Borealis” – a gentle pause

Good grief – how long has it been since we last featured the Americana UK Wednesday Afternoon Chill Out Zone With No Goddamn Lyrics (or the AUKWACOZWNGL as we like to call it)?  We don’t know – I mean, it could be found out with a little effort, but we do know it has been a time and then some.  And that is too long.  So here we are at last with a relaxing mid-week instrumental piece to soothe those frazzled mid-week nerves.  It comes from Phil Cook’s new album of the same title, with will be released on the 21st of March.

Phil Cook was a founding member of DeYarmond Edison, Megafaun and Gayngs – and a happy collaborator far beyond having worked with Anaïs Mitchell, Hiss Golden Messenger, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Waxahatchee, Bon Iver, Indigo Girls, The Japanese House, Mavis Staples and Travis Scott.  That’s a wide palette. ‘Appalachia Borealis‘ was produced by Justin ‘Bon Ivor‘ Vernon and the recording includes birdsong, the whistling of the wind and much more.

AUKWACOZWNGL will return in the near future – if the well of instrumental music is untapped, it’s sure been in low supply these many months past, and we have no idea why.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
